The La Cygne Police Department is looking into a proposed shooting range.

According to a police chief’s report to the La Cygne City Council, the range would be owned and operated by the police department.

The range would allow the police department access to the range, one mile outside of the city limits.

The site would be opened to law enforcement and appointed personnel to receive concealed carry classes by a certified instructor. Only law enforcement and designated personnel would be allowed to use the range.

Police officials are requesting authorization to apply for a National Rifle Association grant. The purpose of the grant is to assist the police department by providing equipment and establishing the range, if the council decides to move forward with the project.
