It was a tale of two halves for the Central Heights girls’ basketball team Friday. After making just three of 16 field goals in the first half, the Lady Vikings came out with an improved effort in the second half, making 14 of 27 shots, as they overcame a four-point halftime deficit to remain unbeaten in Pioneer League play following a 41-33 victory over the Wellsville Eagles. Neither team found the basket consistently in the first half. Central Heights scored just two points in the first quarter but managed to get within four points, 16-12, at halftime. The Lady Vikings (11-3 overall, 5-0 Pioneer League) came out firing in the second half, outscoring Wellsville 29-17, to pull out the win. Marissa Cox nearly recorded a double-double, finishing with nine points and 10 rebounds, to lead Central Heights. Shelby Droddy, Elli Ouellette and Katelin Horstick each scored eight points. “(We) did not really make any adjustments at halftime, just shot the ball a lot better,” Central Heights coach David Clayton said. Boys Clutch free-throw shooting in the fourth quarter led the Vikings to a 49-41 win over the Wellsville Eagles on Friday. Central Heights (7-7 overall, 2-1 Pioneer League) made seven of nine free throws in the quarter.
