Defense sparked the Osawatomie seventh-grade boys’ basketball team to a 30-17 victory over Wellsville on Feb. 9. Wellsville was limited to single digits in all four quarters, including just two in the fourth. Tied at 6-6 after the first quarter, Brandon Gaines and Austin Chisam each scored five points in the second. It not only helped Osawatomie’s offense to get going, but to create enough separation between itself and Wellsville, as the Trojans led 22-16 at halftime. Chisam nearly outscored Wellsville by himself, scoring 15 points. Gaines added nine points. Jake Allen scored all four of his points in the third quarter. Shay Neal and Travis Manes each made a free throw. Osawatomie finishes the season Thursday at Prairie View.
