Home sweet home. And how sweet the Miami County Family YMCA proved to be for the Miami County Vipers swim team in their first home meet of the season June 10. Scroll down the roster and you’ll notice everyone played a big role in the Vipers’ 1,123-415 victory over Ottawa. Gold-medal performances were easy to find, and just about every Viper bagged a victory. Overall, the Vipers won 64 events, and they racked up the points all evening. Grace North, Ian Heid, Gabe Cunningham, Grant Maimer, Liz Brown, Jessie White, Julia Dorsett and Nathan Laudan each won three events. North, competing in the women’s 6-and-under division, won the 25-yard freestyle in 34.62 seconds, the 25-meter butterfly in 44.69 and 25-meter backstroke in 34.28. Heid, competing in the men’s 6-and-under division, touched the finish line in the 25 freestyle in 30.69, 25 breaststroke in 40.49 and 100 individual medley in 3 minutes, 2.06 seconds. Cunningham, competing in the men’s 9-to-10-year-old division, struck gold in the 25 freestyle in 32.9, 25 backstroke in 38.65 and 25 breaststroke in 35.12. Maimer won the 50 freestyle in the 13-to-14-year old division in 29.2, 100 individual medley in 1:18.53 and capped off the Vipers’ strong effort by capturing the 200 freestyle in the 15-and-over division in 2:35.6. Brown struck gold in the 50 freestyle (34.33), 100 backstroke (1:30.5) and 100 freestyle (1:17.66) — all in the 15-to-18-year old division. White won the women’s 9-to-10-year old 50 butterfly (51.3), 100 backstroke (1:53.02) and 100 freestyle (1:31.98). Dorsett, competing in the 15-to-18-year old division, struck gold in the 50 butterfly (30.9), 100 breaststroke (1:23.91) and 200 individual medley (2:39.81). Also in the 15-to-18-year old division, Laudan won the men’s 100 individual medley (1:18.74), 100 freestyle (1:09.78) and 200 freestyle (2:35.6). Ten relays also struck gold. The Vipers compete today at Wood Valley, Saturday and Sunday in Kansas City, before returning home for their final home meet June 24.
