Osawatomie Cub Scout Pack 3099 now has a name for its soon-to-open farmers’ market. Railside Market has new prices, a starting date and a free booth offer for the first week. Pack Chair Sandi Spears said the Cub Scouts plan to open the market July 11. All rent money goes to the group. “The first week is free if paid for the second week at only $5. That’s two weeks for $5,” Spears said. “This is a great deal to help get us started.” The pack is looking for anyone who would like to sell anything grown, handmade or manufactured in the local Kansas or Missouri area. Backyard gardeners and farmers are welcome to sell fruits, vegetables, plants, herbs and so forth. Local crafters and manufacturers can sell any permissible items. Other items allowed include crafts, furniture, jams, baked goods, nuts, honey, candies, ciders and beverages grown or made in the local area and in Kansas or Missouri. “If all applicable Kansas regulations are followed, ready-to-eat food, frozen meats and eggs are permitted as well,” Spears said. All foods on sale or displayed are required to be effectively protected from contamination, she said. “Vendors must also provide their own selling tools, such as tables, scales and change,” she said. The pack is also looking for musicians, face-painters and others to donate time for the first week. If interested, send an e-mail message to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
