C.Gambino kept his identity a secret and wore a mask in public. Allegedly linked to a criminal network.
Award-winning Swedish rapper C. Gambino was killed in a shooting in a parking lot in Gothenburg, Sweden. The 25-year-old was found with a serious gunshot wound on Wednesday night and later died in hospital.
It was allegedly a gang attack and a deliberate shooting in a public car park in the west of Gothenburg. A Gothenburg police spokesman said there were links between the artist and one or more criminal networks. “We suspect the crime is gang-related,” he said, but declined to give further details.
Gang crime is a huge problem
Sweden has struggled for years to control violence linked to organized crime. In a country of 10 million people, such crimes have more than tripled in the last ten years, surpassing the level in neighboring countries. Police estimate that 62,000 people are active in criminal networks or associated with such networks.
C.Gambino, who has nearly a million monthly listeners on the Spotify streaming service, wore a public mask to hide his identity. It also happened last month at the Swedish music awards ceremony, the Grammys, where he was named Swedish Hip-Hop Artist of the Year 2023. The late artist is not to be confused with American artist Childish Gambino.
